Eliza: What is God?

Eliza: What is God?

The other day I received an interesting text message from a reader. After obtaining permission to share it without reference to the individual’s identity, I have decided to use the comment as an inspiration for something that has bothered me since childhood… religion.

Here’s the text:

Eliza, it could be that you are trying to find a closer path to God on your hikes in Mother Nature He has blessed you by making you such an incredibly talented writer, like very few are If you kneel down in a safe place on one of the beautiful paths and ask God to show you that He is real and with you in your struggles, He will do it…

I do know this person meant well and is probably a Christian. However, in other articles, I have already made it abundantly clear that I am NOT a Christian nor do I belong to any earth-based religious ideology. I regard ALL religion as a means created by off-worlders to control and manipulate humanity.

For one thing, we are all fractals of Source, Great Spirit… Creator. According to more than one star culture, if any gender would be assigned to Source, it would be the feminine, not male. It is the woman who brings life into the physical, not the male, despite the deranged manipulations of psychologically traumatized leftists.

Secondly, my soul essence is extremely old, with experiences ranging for hundreds of thousands of years just in this galaxy and probably beyond. What I carry today as my talents and gifts, I chose to bring them here as part of the equipment required to fulfill my soul contract and mission.

I don’t have to go on my hikes to find God… or to be in touch with Source. That connection has never been broken despite any difficulties I might have experienced while here on Terra. That inner connection is what keeps me going, motivated to continue putting up these posts… It is an inner fire from the Heart center that enlightens my awareness, strengthens my will to put up intel and articles that are controversial, to discover alternative methods to convey the messages I seek to share. Meanwhile, I respect my readers’ rights to decide what they want to be a part of, what they want to read/listen to, to make up their own minds.

‘Now, that “god” thing that Christians believe in so desperately… and it is desperation. Jesus will not return. He is not ‘the Lord’. There is no ‘savior’ unless it is from within yourself. Jesus… or as I prefer, Yeshua, was a man born of woman, a woman who was artificially inseminated by an ET, namely Ea (Enki) with the sole purpose to create a higher frequency physical body that would allow for a highly advanced soul to align with the body’s resonance. There has to be a shared resonance between body and soul, as the body is simply the vehicle that allows the soul to experience physicality. The soul is here temporarily and continues on long after the body has returned to dust. Yeshua ably performed his assigned mission and returned Home. He will not be returning here to Terra — as far as I understand it, and certainly not as a ruler, which he would regard as a violation to your sovereignty.

The word “Christ” simply means ‘the anointed’, a term taken from earlier spiritual practices. In fact, most of what passes as Christianity today has been borrowed, stolen, or simply altered from a variety of cultural sources. Nothing, and I mean nothing in Christianity and in fact, Judaism, is original. Religions were deliberately set up by our ET regressive custodians to keep humanity divided and fighting against each other, to weaken us, dumb us down, and demand obedience under the pain of threats, either in this lifetime or after death. Fear tactics, people, fear tactics.

The God of the Bible and frankly all holy books upon this planet is a contentious topic, one that whole peoples are ready to defend against all comers. Nevertheless, recently several Bible scholars have proven that the God of the Bible, especially the Old Testament, was actually a plural of off-worlders, the Elohim, meaning “powerful ones from above” or something similar. For further explanation, see the original texts in Sumerian and Akkadian which have been translated or read the books of Billy Carson, Paul Wallis, Corina Pataki, Elena Danaan, and Alex Collier… to name a few.

The ETs who passed themselves off as gods to primitive humanity were in direct violation of the Prime Directive of the Galactic Federation — which I believe didn’t actually exist when the Anakhim expedition first came to Terra some 375,000 years ago. Still, this was a violation of natural Cosmic law. No advanced race is supposed to claim godship over a lesser evolved humanity or species. It is a violation of sovereignty. Being mentored by an advanced race is okay… if done with sensitivity. When a civilization is on the cusp of becoming an interstellar race, then it is conducive to have an elder race mentor and assist… not rule or control… the younger race, as a parent or grandparent would do for a younger family member.

The benevolent extraterrestrial star nations do not worship any gods. They recognize that all living beings, a list that includes animals, planets, and stars, are fractals of Source, containing the consciousness of Source within themselves. They understand the language of resonance and frequency, of mathematics and science… real science based on free energy and beyond.

The original star races who seeded humanity into this solar system (first on Mars) work as the hearts and hands of greater powers than themselves. These are the Seeders, who act as agents for The Nine, who are aspects of Source. There is no god beyond… no god of “our people” or “your people”… it is all consciousness. In this universe (there are several) consciousness ranges from first density to twelfth, with 13th being reserved for Source. Source exists in the Void, which is between universes, supraphysical. Each universe, each galaxy has its own level of consciousness. Terra is an important linchpin for this universe, as when we officially graduate as a star nation, the entire universe will ascend into a higher frequency level, with third density being permanently deleted from the mix. Did you realize how important this war was, my dear readers? More than you know…

As a child and later as a young adult, I was bothered by the stories shared by ministers. Still, having experienced lifetimes aligned with various religions, I was inevitably drawn into such experiences in this lifetime, only to ultimately be repelled by the obligatory demand for giving one’s power away to a ‘higher authority’. This was a part of my mission in this lifetime, to realize that to follow any religion is to give up control of your own destiny. If I make mistakes, they’re mine, and I have made an effort to see them as opportunities for growth. In this, I am advancing my own inner soul evolution, at my own pace, under my own determination.

Could it possibly be that I go into Nature because I love plants and animals and enjoy being away from the hordes who visit this place? No, I won’t kneel to any imaginary god, whatever his/her name may be. It doesn’t mean I don’t acknowledge the presence of higher (frequency) beings having an effect on my life. In the past I have had experiences with beings I refer to as angels, although they may actually be soul family who I cannot yet see. Some of these experiences have come when I especially needed a helping and compassionate hand.

So, as well-meant as this text message was, it offended me in a way… and so I let it sit a few days before writing off a rude comment in return.

Believe me, I understand the need of some to feel that someone guides their lives from above. Still, I felt this is a misunderstanding of just how magnificent our own Soul essence is… for a large part of it exists in other realms, frequencies, and densities. Only the tiniest flame keeps our soul essence anchored within our physical bodies, and when the body perishes, the soul leaves.

All experience, whether judged as good or bad, is valuable. Even if we don’t immediately learn the lesson, the seeds are planted only to sprout and produce change in another life. And so it was that as the wife of an Essene leader, a holy Christian woman, a Templar knight, a female Hindu dancer, a druid, a Roman soldier, the wife of a Samurai warrior, etc. I have made my way through many experiences upon this benighted planet in preparation for the ending of this Age… 26,000 long years, at least… spent here, away from my own Home world, all for the sake of bringing my hard-earned Light to these people who so deserve to be set free from their bondage under malevolent overlords that have claimed to be of superior descent.

No, my dears, I do not bow to anyone who claims to be a god. And never will. I honor the divinity that I carry within and seek to embrace my connection to all Life, no matter its outward appearance. Like the soul essence I carry within, all that surrounds me, whether in the form of a human being, a bird, a tree, the clouds, the planet, the stars, the moon… all carry the essence, the consciousness of Source who brought physicality into beingness so it could experience it through us.

And each of you must make your own decisions and arrive at your own conclusions. I do not claim to be superior in knowledge. I just have brought a few talents in my kit for this journey until I am ready to return Home.

Respectfully,

Eliza

P.S. If you are triggered by this article, you have a couple of choices: 1) unfollow this blog; 2) consider why you are triggered, as you begin to realize we all make our own individual soul lessons in life. We all contain unique qualities, as is granted to us by Source through our own experiences. In other words, through our experiences, we earn the ability to carry more Light (intelligence) and love (compassion) as a result of our own individual soul efforts.

I’m fine with either suggestion, to go, to stay, to ponder or whatever you might come up with. Each of us first have to work with ourselves, coming into alignment with our particular frequency and resonance which is unique to us. No one ever should ever be subjected to being told what to do by another person, especially a self-proclaimed authority. I do not make any monetary benefit from this work. If you do decide to go, Adios.

Purge | Laura Aboli

‘PURGE’.

  1. rid (someone or something) of an unwanted quality, condition, or feeling.
  2. remove (a group of people considered undesirable) from an organization or place in an abrupt or violent way.

I believe the next few years are going to be about purging every aspect of the human experience on a massive scale.

At an individual level the purging will happen in several ways; it will be about purging the wrong people from our lives, (which has already been happening), it will be about purging toxicity from our physical bodies and it will be about purging the wrong beliefs, behaviours, conditions, habits and traumas.

On a global scale, it will be about purging the evil that has infiltrated and controlled every aspect of human life on this planet. Starting with the financial system, politics, education, science, medicine, entertainment, energy, food… you name it, there is no aspect of our lives that has not been infiltrated by evil. It’s time to purge.

For the purge to occur, however, an awakening is required, which fortunately is happening as we speak, because truth must be faced and our own shortcomings, foolishness, ignorance, laziness and lack of principles and morals must be acknowledged. Taking responsibility for one’s actions is vital even if those actions were taken in ignorance.

So brace yourselves as we and the world purge from everything that stands in the way of light and love.

There is a lot of darkness in this world and a lot of darkness inside many people, it’s not going to be pretty, it’s going to be ugly and painful, but absolutely necessary for the creation of a better reality.

There is no need for fear, there is only a need for love, courage and faith that we can do it, because we can and we will. And best of all, we will do it together.

Eliza Photo Journal: Winter Walks in Flagler County, Florida

Sandy path through Coastal Scrub – No. Peninsula SP

These photos are from a couple of walks I did this past week in Flagler County, including North Peninsula State Park, Betty Steflik Preserve, Lehigh Trail and Bulow Woods (starting from Fairchild Oak SP). The weather has been fairly dry and pleasant, making for excellent hiking weather. Today was cloudy with a wind, but snuggled down among the big trees of Bulow Woods, I didn’t notice it too much, unless I came to the water’s edge.

In this journal entry, I’m not going to spend a great deal of time describing my walks, just give a slight notation on the whereabouts in case you’re interested. Some of the photos were taken for “artistic” purposes, exploring design and texture, not simply a record of a walk I’ve taken already four or five times since returning to this area of Florida.

Eliza: Photo Journal and some Winter Musings

Eliza: Photo Journal and some Winter Musings

This morning I visited Princess Place. The temperatures were in the 60’s, the skies blue, the park full of people in some places, empty in others. I chose to take one of my favorite walks, parking near the covered bridge over Stiles Creek and then setting out on a portion of the equestrian trail.

Ah, some equestrians. Beautiful horses!

I noticed some equestrians and their beautiful mounts exiting one of the side roads and waiting for traffic to pass so they could cross the one-way covered bridge.

Covered Bridge over Stiles Creek

Now, why was I at Princess Place, again. I seem to go there every two or three weeks since I arrived back in this area (Flagler County). Well, today I really needed trees, big trees and some relative peace during my walk instead of needing to dodge traffic even in my relatively quiet neighborhood. You see, folks, I’ve been undergoing my own personal identity meltdown these past nearly two weeks since I had a brief but memorable encounter with a gang of scammers. As a consequence of my suffering from some considerable traumatic stress syndrome, I have lost some ground in self-confidence.

According to a banker at my local credit union, financial scams have been soaring of late and anyone, anyone can have the misfortune of experiencing such an episode. Fortunately, it would appear my current finances are okay, but it was a close thing, especially when I already had put out a lot of $$ towards repairing an elderly car. I know I was targeted, too, nearly the moment I joined X (formerly Twitter) possibly due to some impertinent remarks I made or not. I was contacted by an Elon Musk impostor, which I thought was strange… “He” wanted to give me a deal to buy Bitcoin, make a profit so I could buy a Tesla. I ended up blocking this individual and nearly the next day, an email receipt/invoice for Bitcoin ended up in an email I don’t generally give out. I put that in the spam, but then, two weeks later, another invoice showed up… and then I was roped into a situation that lasted nearly an entire day, while I was worrying about whether or not I would have enough funds to pay for my auto repairs. Frankly, I wasn’t in a “good place” and therefore, susceptible to some persuasion. “They” got away with $500.

By the next day, I finally came to my senses, questioning everything. I noticed the manipulation and emotional pressure I had been under as a possible scam. When I checked on a few things, I knew it was a scam… the men wanted everything I had in the bank, too, and kept asking whether or not I had other bank accounts. Well, I went to my banker, explained the situation and was given some options. Then I went home and uninstalled some software on both computer and phone, blocked a series of phone numbers and emails, hoping this would end any opportunity for the scammers to wreak more damage. Today, finally, a new infusion of $$ from one of my income sources finally showed up, giving me renewed hope that the whole ordeal was finally over.

Financial scams, emotional scams… I’ve been through it all since leaving Washington State and my former employment. Yet, I know I was meant to be here in Florida to meet certain people and to encounter remnants of my own inner darkness that is self-doubt and a willingness to give my power away to others.

As I have noted before, there are several layers to the waking up process. Some of us are more street-smart than others. I’m actually quite naive compared to some people, even the women who are my present housemates. I long for a world where people are accepted for who/what they are, not what they do in the world. Simply being is a difficult job in a world full of ego identity.

I’m not proud of opening myself up to a scam. However, I eventually pulled through, using my common sense, checking on things, questioning motives, and simply enduring the discomfort and resulting tension and lack of sleep. It may take awhile for me to return to feeling more secure within myself. For now, I will intend to spend a lot of time in Nature and probably not as much time online. Self-honesty, humility, critical thinking and being true to one’s Self is of paramount importance especially now when everything we have depended upon is being shredded, dismantled, taking a great deal of adjustment, besides confronting skepticism from those who are not yet quite fully awake. I intend to spend more time processing my recent experiences through journaling, which is one way I let go of what is bothering me.

I don’t know about y’all, but I also feel a great deal of tension in the collective. Whether or not people address their fears and feelings, there is a sense that something big is about to drop… I feel it in the pit of my stomach, which is an intuitive warning of impending danger unless I (we?) change our approach on the situation. I have felt that feeling while walking alone in the Washington Cascades upon reaching the snow level and deciding not to proceed any further. I have felt it when driving my car up a snowy road and deciding to turn back despite the other car in the party was still proceeding up the hill. What am I missing? What am I sensing? Perhaps I need to take a long break from the Internet. Frankly, if the Internet shut down tomorrow, I wouldn’t miss it.

The remainder of the Deep State is desperate and will probably attempt to pull off a big false flag… we’ll just have to see, and see how the White Hats (White Knights, et al?) take command of the situation. Meanwhile, I will endeavor to focus on inner work, in order to return to a place of inner peace I once experienced even here on Terra.

So, how about a few more photos to end this journal entry. In joy:

A forest trail
Pellicer Creek

So, a bit of an episode of True Confessions today… Just know that while I’m here, I’m subject to the same doubts and fears as anyone else wearing a physical 3D vehicle. I know it isn’t me but I still get the honor of wrestling with human emotions and ego issues. Like Alex Collier often remarks, we’re undergoing a Master class here in these final moments of the old system, as it cracks and disintegrates before us all. It is difficult, messy, and inconvenient… uncomfortable and all of that… and still a miraculous opportunity for tremendous soul growth. Moving into a state of balance and inner peace is vital for one’s personal well-being. Nevertheless, we are all being tested on a constant basis, and tested, again. This past two weeks have been difficult for me but I’ve made some progress and am now emerging out of the funk, ego-bruised, battered, but still kicking.

Thanks for being you, all of you, who follow this blog. If anyone wants to contact me directly, use: bluedragonjournal@gmail.com

Meanwhile, I’m not a guru, a contactee, or experiencer… other than simply experiencing life in 3D which has proven to be quite an adventure. Hopefully, what I have learned I can share with others when I finally return to my real Home, which isn’t Terra.

Blessings to all,

Eliza

Life: A Journey to Understand its Meaning and Purpose | Laura Aboli

Photo by Gino Matteucci on Pexels.com

Eleven years ago something happened that made me completely reevaluate life and so I started a long, ongoing journey to try and understand its meaning and purpose.

The quest has lead me down many different paths, often contradicting and sometimes misleading. (It’s a total minefield.)

Just when you think you know something, you realise you don’t and just as you thought some things were beginning to make sense, you have to discard them and start all over again.

My quest has made me capable of actually holding two opposing notions in serious consideration and having an open and critical mind to evaluate anything without the bias of any inherent, cultural or religious bias.

I’m aware that this often confuses people because they can’t label or box me into any category (which pleases me).

I believe that if we are truly committed to seeking truth, we must be prepared to consider that long held beliefs may not be truthful or at least not in its entirety. If there’s one thing I’ve learned on this journey, is that evil uses truth and mixes it with falsehoods to confuse and deceive us, so learning to separate the wheat from the chaff is a very necessary skill on this journey.

Perhaps the most significant conclusion that I have drawn after all these years, is that the further you go in search for answers, the more you understand they were always inside of you.

The quest for truth my friends, does not lie outside of us, it lies inside. All the answers are contained within our souls. The key lies in developing the skills to ‘reconnect’ with your greater being in the midst of the chaos and noise and distractions of this matrix.

It’s not an easy thing to do, but it’s what we must do at this time. In fact, I believe that is precisely our mission; it’s our contribution to humanity’s transformation by means of our individual enlightenment through our connection to our greater selves and our Creator. Only then, will we access the answers, the wisdom and the power to transform and transcend this reality.

Someone said ‘The kingdom of God is within you’.
It is true.

Notes to Readers:

In 2012, I started my first blog, Blue Dragon Journal, and opened myself up to a more international crowd. I was in for some surprising twists and turns on my own life’s journey. Still, I eventually recognized what Laura so ably describes above: “…our contribution to humanity’s transformation (comes) through our individual enlightenment, through our connection to our greater Selves and the Creator.”

The answers, all the answers lie within your own consciousness. It takes trust, patience, and dedication to drop the ego’s defenses long enough in order to access those answers. And they often don’t come all at once, but are contained within clues, puzzle pieces, symbols… until you are able to recognize the patterns and decipher the meaning. And then, again, sometimes you just know, but it takes real courage to share that inner knowledge with others who are not yet prepared to hear you.

Sometimes silence is the best teacher. Go into Nature and listen to the wind blow through the tree tops. Listen and know you are One with all you survey.

The time to share your Heart knowledge will come. Meanwhile, know that you are special, unique and loved. You are never alone. ❤

Eliza: Photo Journal, Mid-winter stroll

Spiderwort

It was another blue bird day so I set out on a little outing. I visited one of my local favs, River to Sea Preserve. There were more people at the preserve than I’ve encountered before. We’re in the middle of snowbird season, with people visiting from northern climes to warm up or even other parts of Florida.

The weathered branches are all that remain of sand oaks that were flooded out during Hurricane Matthew. The preserve is only a short distance from Marineland, an area that was completely under water with the storm surge. The oaks didn’t survive, but the tough salt resistant saw palmetto did.

The moment you step into the hushed shade of the oak hammock, it feels like you’ve entered an enchanted land. The growth bordering the wide sandy path is thick, tangled, filled with tall slender saplings, angular hollies, spiky Sabal palms and saw palmetto, wild coffee, assorted grasses and ferns, all in an explosion of green life. Dried leaves crunch underfoot. Even with the nearby highway and the swish of boats passing on the river, the hammock feels like a haven of peace.

Massive oaks dominate the canopy, some of them missing branches lost in storms, evidence of their great age. Ferns and vines cling onto the huge limbs that reach across the path, an open air roof to the hammock.

A couple of side trails take the walker down to the Matanzas River where you can sit and watch power boats zip by on the wide channel.

This is a very Florida photo… Sabal palms in the foreground framing the blue waters and blue sky as another power boat cruises by on the calm Intracoastal Waterway.

The great oaks of the hammock are home to community, ranging from ferns and vines, to mosses and lichens, with tiny lizards and squirrels scurrying around through the flora.

Find the butterfly – Zebrina

After finishing up the walk at River to Sea, I headed onto Washington Oaks Gardens State Park. Again, there was a ton of people present, something I guess I’ll have to get used to for the remainder of the winter and into spring. I had to drive a bit farther even to find a parking place. Having sturdy hiking boots on, I didn’t mind the walk. The temperature was pleasant, just a tiny chill in the air when standing in the shade, but I had short sleeves on.

Kwan Yin

It’s taken me a while to locate Kwan Yin’s statue that is tucked into a shady corner of the formal garden above one of the ponds. The bodhisattva has always been a favorite of mine.

The ponds were green and slimy with algae, but still a nice contrast with the bulky subtropical vegetation of the formal garden. There is Bird of Paradise here that is about nine feet tall, as well as stands of bamboo, gigantic Schefflera, and assorted other shrubs.

Azaleas

The azaleas and camellias were beginning to bloom, showing their shy blossoms. The camellias were looking a little tired from the soaking they received last weekend. It rained hard for two straight days, which is unusual unless we’re experiencing a hurricane.

Irises in bloom at pond’s edge

I had a short conversation with a nice couple from Massachusetts who were visiting the area. We saw each other in both parks. There were people everywhere, so I didn’t linger.

I headed to the grocery store to replenish my non-cook supplies in case something happens in the next couple of days.

Last night I woke up and stayed awake for a while. This always happens when we have a solar flare, which is becoming quite common these days. We’ll get through this period, but sometimes it can be challenging. The internet was still up, but reports were coming in stating wide-spread cell phone outages across the nation, possibly due to the solar flare… possibly not.

I hope everyone is doing as well as can be expected. Hold tight. Hope springs eternal.

The solar flares are real, but the Deep State is using them as an excuse to see if they can interfere with internet and cell coverage… and the power gird. Laura Aboli | No one is coming to save us (and that’s okay)

Photo by Ave Calvar Martinez on Pexels.com

I’ve said this many times and I will say it again; nobody is coming to save us. (And that’s ok)

I know this sounds scary to most people, specially if you’ve just started this journey, but you see, that’s exactly what this is all about. This journey, this process, this transformation, is about understanding, acknowledging and reclaiming our own power, our innate abilities and our immortal essence. It’s about saving ourselves. That is the lesson.

The truth is we don’t need ‘heroes’ to come and save us, yes, there may be two opposing factions fighting in the matrix, and one seems to have good intentions, but there is always an agenda and frankly, the matrix is not our future in any case.

What we must remember, is that this is a spiritual war. This war is not won within the matrix, it is won by transcending it, by breaking the illusion and by rejecting it’s fake reality.

This war is won by overcoming, by becoming, by transforming, by transcending, by understanding, by connecting and by embracing our divine nature.

You cannot defeat darkness with darkness, you can only defeat darkness with light. That is why nobody else can save us but ourselves; by becoming that light.

We were all born with it: the eternal, divine, sacred energy with which we were created, but we allowed that light to be dimmed. We allowed others to tamper with it, to manipulate it, to change its hue and to even make us think it was never there to begin with.

Darkness pulled it’s greatest trick; to make us think we were not light.

What is happening within us and around us, is precisely an awakening to our truth; we ARE the light that will change the world, WE hold the power.

We are living and witnessing the end game, the final test. This is when humanity has to rise up to the occasion and become what we were created to be.

So don’t worry yourself too much with the madness around us, instead focus on your inner condition; put your house in order, let the ghosts out of the closet, face your shortcomings, redeem yourself, forgive yourself and others, let go of what hampers your well-being, face yourself, improve yourself, love yourself and those around you and watch your energy rise, your power increase, your beauty come through, your empathy grow and with it all, watch your light become the miracle that you are. That we all are.

Our creator is finally beginning to smile… we’ve got this. It just took us a few thousand years to finally get it, but it’s never too late when the deed is good. And this, my friends, is not just the ultimate good deed, it’s our destiny, our mission, our purpose and our reason for being.

Eliza Photo Journal: Late Winter Discoveries

Where Cisco Ditch meets Bulow Creek

After a stressful week that including having some major repair work done on an aging vehicle and a scamming attack, I decided I needed to decompress by visiting one of my favorite local state parks, Bulow Woods.

Sometimes when I climb into the Kia I really don’t know where I want to go. The “plan” formulates as I drive and often depends on conditions, availability of parking at some locations, weather, etc. I decided to head to Bulow Woods even as I was calculating on whether or not I would stop at the grocery store and then get some gas before returning home. I like to combine chores with outings so I use less gas. I’ve been doing this for years as second nature.

When I arrived at the tiny parking area for the middle portion of Bulow Woods I was in luck; there was a space for my car. Parking, I pulled on my hiking boots thinking the trail might still prove muddy in places. I really could have worn my Keen water sandals yesterday. The path heading towards Cisco Ditch was dry and crunchy underfoot as old dried leaves were falling like a light rain shower. There were distinct signs of the return of Spring to this ancient hammock forest, with bright green leaves on some of the maples.

Leaf litter on trail
Swamp Jasmine – Gelsemium rankinii

By now if you’ve been following these photo journals, you are aware of my love for plants. The Carolina Swamp Jasmine or Jessamine caught my eye as I was sauntering northwards on the trail. Typically the undergrowth in the hammock is stiff upright Yaupon Holly or bushy Inkberry Holly, but suddenly I noticed some yellow blossoms sprinkled on the damp grass. Looking upward, I was rewarded with this glorious native vine in bloom, its yellow trumpet-shaped flowers beckoning to fluttering white butterflies. Upon returning home, I looked up the plant and discovered it is a native that is used in gardens. There are some named cultivars. In the woods it sprawls around climbing with profuse evergreen tangles. It can bloom several times a year. Since the temperature was warmish (around 70 degrees F, 17.2 C) the flowers were out for display, adding a bit of charm to the dusty woods.

I continued on towards the bridge over Cisco Ditch, which is currently out-of-commission (more on that later). As I walked along the path I was admiring the girth of some of the older trees, trees that I couldn’t put my arms around and touch my fingers, so perhaps five feet or more in circumference. These are substantial specimens, primarily live oaks and maples. There are also Magnolia Grandiflora sprinkled throughout the woods, along with the spiky Sabal (Cabbage) Palms, Saw Palmetto and assorted shrubs. I’m still learning the natives here, as well as some of the invasives. As a note, when species, whether plant or animal are brought to Florida from another subtropical setting, they adapt quickly and become invasive. Case in point the boa constrictors that have taken over the Everglades.

Big trees, shady path

While the trees I was passing off the trail are notable, the northern section of the trail (still off-limits) possesses some massive specimens. Years ago, I walked that section of trail a couple of times. There is a loop of about 5 miles that passes through the forest and edges one of the swamps that feeds into Bulow Creek. Gigantic ferns cover portions of this marsh. It is simply spectacular if you love subtropical jungles.

Fresh spring maple leaves

It’s difficult to photograph leaves in the midst of a forest. The lighting is dimmed due to the overhanging foliage and jumble of vines that comprise the canopy. I was attempting to capture the bright nearly chartreuse green of these leaves.

The bright blossoms and new leaves are in contrast to the dusty trunks of trees and vines against the dark tea-colored waters of Cisco Ditch.

Trail closed

The pink tape was draped across the trail, blocking the approach to the old bridge. I encountered three rangers on the trail, two inside a park truck and later another one talking to some visitors on the trail. One of the rangers told me of their plans for the forest. The bridge has been fully removed and will be replaced. It would appear the rangers are in the process of gearing up for their repair program on the northern trail section. That part of the forest has not seen any work on it since Hurricane Ian passed nearby in 2022. Trees will have to be removed from the trail, bridges replaced, routes altered depending on what is found. I’m sure they have already done a great deal of survey work to determine what will be required.

Part of the “beach” on Bulow Creek

I finally reached the sandy/mud beach on Bulow Creek only to find someone else there ahead of me. Not wanting to disturb the individual, I snapped a few photos, but didn’t linger.

Egret Perch

Whenever you approach water’s edge in these salt marshes, you encounter birds of all sorts, especially wading birds. Today I saw a raft load of egrets… or at least a bush load, as well as some individuals. There was a lot of bird activity high in the canopy, with the knocking rhythm of woodpeckers, the cry of an unseen osprey, the song of mockingbirds and other unidentifiable songsters. It is nearly impossible to sight a bird perched high up in a hundred foot pine tree unless it is fluttering about.

The sun was playing peek a boo periodically during the hours I spent on the trail. Clouds were building up on the horizon (when it could be seen) as we were expecting a drenching rainstorm on Saturday and Sunday.

Upon returning to the car, I decided to continue on to my favorite little peninsula on Bulow Creek, so I re-entered the middle portion of the trail, heading south. There I encountered two rangers in one of their jeeps. I had a long chat with the guys who informed me of their plan to hold a controlled burn on that section of trail. The area has not had a burn for at least ten years and even I, a relative newcomer to Florida, know that at least 4 to 5 hurricanes have passed through the area since then. The mature forest has too much flammable material and as the ranger noted is subject to periodic forest fires if not cleaned up. The saw palmetto will grow back, while the older trees will be blackened at their bases, but not heavily affected by the quick fires as it consumes the piles of fallen leaves, branches, palm fronds etc. off the forest floor. Having noticed burn marks on some of the older trees before, this explanation connected some dots for me on how the state manages this particular forest.

Bulow Creek

I later encountered another ranger speaking with some visitors. One of the men, a young burly fellow, was volunteering to help with some of the clean up, making the ranger feel very happy. These guys love their work and their woods.

I kept encountering all sorts of friendly visitors along the route, including people walking their dogs. Two of the dogs, both Miniature or Pocket Pitbulls, came up to me wiggling their little bottoms. I’m a dog magnet sometimes and these short-legged grinning Pitbulls are very sweet creatures, pulling at their leads the moment they saw me.

When I finally reached the peninsula, again I wasn’t alone. Two people had beached their kayaks and were eating lunch perched above the creek. We chatted; the couple were visiting the area from Miami. They were concerned they were on private land, but I assured them they were on state park lands.

Bulow Creek Salt Marsh
Brazilian Pepper Plant

After doing some research, I’ve identified this handsome plant as Brazilian Pepper, which was brought to Florida in the 1980’s as an ornamental. Unfortunately, the pepper proved to be prolific and has spread into some of the salt marshes. I have seen in along Bulow Creek and again at Betty Steflik Preserve. It does make a beautiful hedge and as you can see possesses beautiful red berries.

Swamp denizens – Tri-colored Heron & White Egret

All in all, it was a pleasant forest walk on a warmish day without the usual mozzies (mosquitoes and gnats).

After finishing up my walk, I loaded myself into the car and drove to one of the local grocery stores for some provisions and later got some gas for the Kia. I felt tired but refreshed from my physical activity and being immersed in one of my favorite spots in Florida, Bulow Woods. I had accomplished quite a bit, gathering intel on the forest, doing some plant ID, chatting with other visitors, and greeting other walkers and bicyclists on the trail. A good day.
