Phase 1 showed us the Trump/Xi operating model… now pull Putin into the frame and the larger structure starts to come into view…
Xi and Putin have already been working through the same basic model… the leaders establish direction first, then the machinery underneath carries that consensus forward…
That should sound familiar because Bessent just described Trump/Xi almost exactly the same way… the leaders set the course, everyone underneath works out how to make it real…
Now look at the triangle forming… Trump has a direct rail to Xi, Xi has a deep established rail to Putin, and Trump is elucidating the direct rail to Putin through Witkoff, Kushner and leader-to-leader talks centered first on Ukraine but already reaching toward the larger U.S.-Russia relationship…
Three sovereign powers… three bilateral relationships… each carrying its own interests, disputes and red lines while building enough direct structure to keep those differences from breaking the larger system apart…
That is Phase 2… the point is not that Trump, Xi and Putin suddenly agree on everything… it is that the sovereign model we just mapped in Phase 1 is expanding outward…
Strong states remain separate, protect their own interests, compete where they collide and cooperate where they overlap, while building rails strong enough to carry the friction between them…
Then comes the larger signal… Moscow has openly floated the possibility of Trump, Xi and Putin sitting together at APEC in Shenzhen, meaning all three sides of the triangle could eventually meet in the same room…
The architecture is already visible… Trump/Xi now have a working framework beneath them… Xi/Putin already operate through leader-level consensus pushed down into implementation… and Trump/Putin are reopening the third side…
Phase 1 showed us how one side works… Phase 2 is watching the others connect…
Once you see it through the sovereignty lens, the larger shift becomes easier to read…
Countries are increasingly working out their geopolitics directly, leader to leader and nation to nation, while trade, security, energy, technology and conflict move through sovereign channels instead of waiting for centralized institutions to manage everything from above… this is key…
Ukraine, Taiwan, Iran, energy, trade, AI and security remain pressure points… what is changing is the structure carrying them…
Sovereignty, the red lines, and the competition all remain…
Trump, Xi and Putin are not becoming one system… they are becoming three sovereign systems connected by increasingly direct communication channels (rails), each defending its own interests while building enough structure to keep competition from becoming permanent collision…
