Christmas day and New Year’s eve may have ended, but that doesn’t mean the celebrations are over.
For many Christians in Spain and Latin America, the holiday season officially ends tomorrow, 6th of January, which is the 12th day of Christmas known as the Feast of the Epiphany, or Three Kings’ Day.
The holiday celebrates the biblical tale in which the Three Kings, or Three Wise Men, visit baby Jesus after his birth.
In the Gospel of Mathew, the three Kings find baby Jesus by following the path of a star across the desert for twelve days.
According to the Gospel, the three Kings, named Melchior, Caspar, and Balthazar traveled to Bethlehem to bring gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh to baby Jesus.
This makes a lot more sense to me than sharing gifts in the name of an old, fat, bearded man dressed in red, with no connection to baby Jesus. 🤔
So in Catholic Spain, tomorrow is when we find our gifts under the Christmas tree, if you’ve been good, of course! 😊

Before the Julian calendar was introduced, by Julius Caesar in 45BCE the ancient Roman calendar was loosely based on a 355-day lunar cycle with a year commencing around March 25 with the vernal equinox.
But as early as 2500 BC bureaucrats came up with a way of counting days – in order to regulate tax collection. Yes, calendars were invented to collect our taxes!
Lunar time caused problems for large-scale bureaucracies. First, the lunar cycle is not constant. Second, the actual time of the rising of the new moon varied depending on the longitude and latitude of the observer, so as empires got bigger and bigger, covering more geographic territory, reckoning time by the rising of the new moon didn’t work because it rose at different times in different parts of the empire.
This change from calendars based on nature to calendars designed to serve the purposes of those in power was one of the earliest rejections of our relationship to the natural world around us.
God has supplied us with a natural calendar: the 13-moon calendar contains 13 cycles of 28 days, with one day left over. The Mayans decreed the extra day to be one of renewal before the new year. It was called a day out of time when “all the people rest and celebrate life.” What a lovely thought…
With this type of perspective of time, you know exactly what is going on in the world around you, it defines all aspects of life and gives people a relationship with the natural world.
We need to regain this connection with God’s creation. We’ve been out of synch with the cycles of nature for too long… and all for what? Taxes?! 🤦🏻♀️
There is talk about returning to the Lunar calendar rather than the old Roman ones, which were developed in order to collect taxes. Or moving from the Georgian to the Julian calendar. We’ll find out soon enough.
I think I would prefer the Lunar calendar which follows the moon cycles and seasons, more in keeping with the natural progression of a year.

This is where the dilemma lies for people like me. I have spent years warning about how these same technologies could be used to surveil, control, manipulate and ultimately dehumanise us. A technocratic dystopia is not a fantasy, it is a very real trajectory if power remains concentrated in the wrong hands. At the end of the day, technology is a tool, and like every powerful tool, it is a double edged sword.
In the hands of those who see humanity as a problem to be managed, reduced or engineered, it becomes a weapon. In the hands of those who see humanity as sacred, it becomes a liberator.
Historically, the people sitting at the top of these systems have not inspired trust. Their obsession with control, efficiency, data and dominance has always aroused concern and rejection from those of us that have been paying attention. After all, we have witnessed how scarcity was engineered, how fear was cultivated and how dependency was rewarded, whilst freedom was consistently eroded.
But somehow, despite all of this, I feel something has shifted. Not because I suddenly trust the personalities in big tech, quite the opposite, but because it feels as though humanity itself is reaching the end of an old, dark cycle.
There is a strange sense that something larger than these individuals is now in motion. A correction, a rebalancing, a different system, a new beginning that cannot be stopped.
Perhaps this technology, which was meant to enslave, is being repurposed. Perhaps systems built for control are being forced into transparency. Perhaps abundance is finally replacing manufactured scarcity. Maybe this is the birth of a system rooted not in domination, or fear, or scarcity, but in truth, cooperation and abundance.
History moves in cycles, and it feels like the old one is collapsing under its own weight.
I don’t know this with certainty, of course. This isn’t analysis, it’s my gut, my instinct, and yes, my hope, that it will be so.
I feel 2026 will be remembered as the year humanity had to choose what kind of future it wanted to live in. Remember, the future is shaped long before it manifests; it is shaped in the mind, in expectation, in emotion, and in where we place our attention. If we live in constant fear of dystopia, we may be feeding the very outcome we hope to avoid.
If we want a different outcome, we have to envision it. We have to consciously choose, both mentally and emotionally, the future we wish to inhabit. One rooted in dignity, sovereignty, compassion, truth and abundance.
Perhaps this is also part of the test of this moment in history. Not just what systems we build, but what reality we collectively give energy to.
The technology is here, the crossroads is real.
What happens next will depend less on machines, and more on what we collectively choose to create in our minds and ultimately manifest.
The activation of all of the suppressed technologies will ease the physical lives of people, allowing them more time to actually do the things they want, like learn new languages, play music, do art, garden, travel, read books, write books, instead of working two or three jobs just to pay the rent and bills.
