Releasing the Old Version of Yourself | Laura Aboli

There comes a moment on the path of awakening when you realise that growth is not about adding more to yourself, it is about letting parts of yourself die.

The person you were ten years ago could not become the person you are today. Certain beliefs had to be abandoned, certain fears had to be faced, certain illusions had to be shattered and in many cases, entire versions of yourself had to be buried.

That is the nature of transformation.

We often imagine awakening as a process of discovering something new, but more often it is a process of remembering what was always there beneath the layers of conditioning, expectations, programming and fear.

The world teaches us to cling to identities. To define ourselves by careers, relationships, status, achievements, political tribes, even our wounds. We become attached to the masks and eventually mistake them for who we are.

But life has a way of demanding surrender; the old self begins to crack, things that once resonated no longer do, people who once walked beside us no longer understand us, conversations feel different priorities change and what once seemed important loses its grip.

It can feel lonely, even painful, because every transformation carries a death within it.

Many people resist this process because they fear what they might lose, but what if the things falling away were never meant to accompany you where you are going?

Not everyone will understand your evolution. Not everyone will celebrate your growth. Some people only know how to relate to the version of you that no longer exists. Let them go with love…

A tree does not mourn its leaves when autumn arrives, it understands that letting go is part of becoming.

The truth is that awakening is not about becoming someone else, it’s about stripping away everything that is not truly you.

And each time you have the courage to release an old version of yourself, you move one step closer to the person God intended you to be all along.

Do not fear change, do not fear endings. Do not fear becoming unrecognisable to those who only knew your former self.

Every stronger version of yourself stands upon the grave of who you used to be.

I recognizing that even those who see me everyday do not know me. I see it clearly. I will adapt and move on when the time is right.
